About this position
The Institut Català d'Arqueologia Clàssica (ICAC) in Tarragona, Spain, is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher in Phoenician-Punic archaeology to strengthen its research profile in the archaeology of the Phoenician-Punic world and support the Protohistoric Archaeology team.
This is a full-time, temporary postdoctoral position based at ICAC, a public research institution established by the Government of Catalonia and the Rovira i Virgili University and recognised as a CERCA research centre. The successful candidate will contribute to the Sidi Saïd research project in Bargou, Siliana (Tunisia), including archaeological excavation and survey, as well as the study and interpretation of recovered materials.
The role also involves participation in other ongoing research lines, especially the TRANSCOMB-2 project on Iron Age combustion structures in the western Mediterranean and the project The territory of western Cessetania in the first millennium BC: from the Late Bronze Age to Romanisation. Duties include preparing scientific publications, technical reports, and conference papers; contributing to competitive grant capture and new research proposals; teaching content on the Phoenician-Punic world in the Master’s Degree in Applied Classical Archaeology: Research and Knowledge Transfer; helping with research dissemination through MIRMED; and collaborating on knowledge-transfer projects with UTIS.
Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a PhD or equivalent in archaeology or ancient history/history, have a clear specialisation in Phoenician-Punic archaeology and its North African connections in the pre-Roman period, and bring at least two years of postdoctoral research experience. The call also values strong research output, project coordination experience, teaching ability, science communication, knowledge transfer, social impact, open science, and an internationalised research trajectory.
Application deadline: 12 November 2026 at 23:59 (Europe/Madrid). The offer starts on 1 December 2026.
