About this position
The Counseling Center at the University of North Carolina Wilmington is recruiting two postdoctoral psychology fellows for the 2027–2028 academic year. This early-career fellowship is based at the university’s main campus and offers supervised professional psychology experience in a university counseling center and Student Affairs environment.
Fellows provide general counseling services, including individual, relationship, and group therapy, as well as crisis intervention, risk-related assessment, consultation, and referrals to community resources. They manage a clinical caseload and maintain appropriate clinical and administrative records while working with a diverse student population and campus community.
The fellowship includes proactive outreach and psychoeducational programming. Fellows may develop workshops, campus training, professional development presentations, and consultation activities addressing student development and emotional and psychological concerns. They also collaborate with faculty, administrators, staff, campus departments, and student organizations on program development and student support.
Professional development is central to the role. Fellows receive at least two hours of clinical supervision each week and participate in seminars, case conferences, after-hours on-call rotation, Winter Break coverage, and other Counseling Center activities. Each fellow completes a substantive consultation project shaped by Counseling Center needs and their own interests or expertise. Additional opportunities may include administrative experiences, work outside the Center, and supervision of graduate practicum students, externs, paraprofessional staff, or other trainees.
The Counseling Center is part of the Division of Student Affairs at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, a public doctoral institution serving nearly 20,000 students. The fellowship is designed to develop the broad clinical, consultation, outreach, supervision, and professional skills required for university psychology practice and pre-licensure training.
