About this position
Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Electroactive Biomaterials for Cardiac Tissue Engineering at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering, University of Oxford (Botnar Research Centre, Headington, Oxford).
This full-time postdoctoral role sits in Professor Malavika Nair’s research group and is supported by an EPSRC New Investigator Award. The project focuses on developing and validating electroactive biomaterials and bioelectronic devices for cardiac regeneration, combining tissue engineering, biomaterials, stem cell biology, bioelectronics, and regenerative medicine.
You will work closely with collaborators including Professor Christopher Toepfer and contribute to the fabrication and biological validation of electroactive regenerative devices. Key activities include culturing and assessing iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes, processing and synthesising electroactive biopolymers, fabricating and characterising bioelectronic devices, optimising electrical stimulation protocols, and developing physiologically relevant in vitro cardiomyopathy models.
The post is ideal for candidates with a PhD/DPhil in a relevant field such as biological sciences, biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, or materials engineering. Applicants should have experience with iPSC-derived cardiomyocyte culture or relevant ex vivo cardiac models, a strong publication record, the ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team, and excellent scientific communication and writing skills. Desirable experience includes project management, biomaterials and microscopy, high-throughput bioelectronic systems, and collaborative publication development.
The role is fixed-term until 31 March 2027 and is paid at Grade 7: £39,424 - £47,779 per annum (inclusive of Oxford University weighting).
Apply online before midday on 3 August 2026. The application requires a covering letter/supporting statement with a brief statement of research interests, a CV, and details of two referees.
