About this position
This postdoctoral position at Texas A&M AgriLife Research sits in the Department of Agricultural Economics and is based in College Station, Texas. The appointment is centered on U.S. domestic food policy research and will be carried out under the general supervision of Dr. Pourya Valizadeh.
The project focuses on questions at the intersection of food policy, household purchasing behavior, and nutrition. The postdoc will help evaluate SNAP purchase restrictions and other food and nutrition assistance policies, and will also study how different food policies shape household purchases of ultra-processed foods. The work relies on large transaction-level food purchase data and combines econometric analysis with state-of-the-art machine learning and causal inference methods.
The role is strongly research oriented and includes cleaning and analyzing sensitive purchase data such as Circana and NielsenIQ records, working in restricted-data environments within Administrative Data Research Facilities, and contributing to scholarly outputs. The postdoc will write journal articles, present findings at conferences and meetings, and support grant reports and proposals as part of a collaborative research team.
Texas A&M AgriLife Research is part of the Texas A&M University System and connects agricultural and life-sciences research with extension and public service. The broader environment includes a large, multidisciplinary agriculture program with links across research, education, and applied problem solving.
