About this position
Keele University’s School of Life Sciences is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the Arbovirus Refractory Team and contribute to a UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship research programme.
The project addresses the burden of mosquito-borne infectious diseases by developing a novel technology to limit the dissemination of Alphaviruses by Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. The research uses genetic modification of both viruses and mosquitoes to investigate virus function and develop approaches to control arbovirus transmission independently of conventional insecticides.
The successful researcher will lead a work package within the programme and work across molecular virology, mosquito biology and virus–vector interactions. Activities include molecular and virology techniques, plasmid design and cloning, mosquito maintenance, mosquito–virus interaction studies, generation of transgenic mosquitoes and reverse-genetics virus systems. Work will be conducted at Containment Levels 2 and 3.
The postholder will join a dynamic, interactive research team focused on virus research and will have opportunities for professional development through courses and workshops. The project also includes a visit to a project partner in Estonia for practical training in a leading Alphavirus research laboratory.
The research environment combines infectious-disease biology, vector research, molecular genetics and translational approaches to arbovirus transmission control within Keele University’s School of Life Sciences.
