About this position
Texas A&M AgriLife Research in College Station, Texas, is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Biochemistry & Biophysics. The postdoctoral researcher will join the Mullet laboratory and conduct research on bioenergy sorghum supported by the DOE Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center.
The project examines small peptide signaling in sorghum and its role in regulating stem growth, root adaptation to drying soils, plant productivity, resilience and crop composition for bio-based products. Responsibilities include growing and managing bioenergy sorghum, phenotyping plants exposed to different treatments, collecting samples, isolating RNA, generating and analyzing transcriptome profiles, designing and evaluating targeted sorghum gene edits, publishing results and presenting research findings.
Applicants must have a PhD in biochemistry or genetics and knowledge of plant gene expression and transcriptome analysis. Experience with crop plants, particularly sorghum, is preferred. The role requires effective communication, teamwork, multitasking, computer application skills, field-site travel and the ability to work outdoors and occasionally beyond normal business hours.
