About this position
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate for the Center for Urban Policy Research and its built environment group. The role supports externally funded projects focused on building and grid decarbonization and the sustainable energy transition.
Research may include advanced whole-building and community-scale energy modeling; analysis of energy efficiency, demand flexibility, electrification, high-performance buildings, and geothermal systems; assessment of technical, political, behavioral, and social barriers to clean-energy adoption; and evaluation of building codes, standards, policies, utility rates, and economic impacts. Projects address households, low- and moderate-income populations, and affordable housing settings.
The successful researcher will work with approximately 20 researchers at the intersection of engineering, economics, urban planning, and public policy. Duties may include fieldwork, data science, simulation modeling, database and codebook maintenance, peer-reviewed publications, public reports, presentations, and contributions to external funding proposals. Some time will be available for independent discretionary research.
Applicants must have completed a relevant PhD before hire and should demonstrate advanced experience with EnergyPlus, OpenStudio, DesignBuilder, UrbanOpt, or relevant regulatory-economics modeling software, along with strong quantitative, programming, writing, and presentation skills. Python and/or R is preferred. The position is in person in New Brunswick, New Jersey, with some flexibility for remote work, and may be renewed for a second year.
The annual salary range is $70,000–$90,000, with eligible Rutgers benefits. Applicants should apply online with a CV, cover letter, and professional references. Writing samples and additional documents may be submitted optionally.
