About this position
Texas A&M University is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate in finance and economics for a funded 15-month project in the Adam C. Sinn ’00 Department of Finance at Mays Business School.
The researcher will work with Dr. Andrew Fieldhouse and Dr. Adam Kolasinski on approved U.S. Census Bureau Project TX03195, examining how federal contract R&D investments affect firm innovation, performance, productivity, profitability, market share, patenting, and stock returns. The work will use restricted-use firm microdata in the Texas Federal Statistical Research Data Center on the Texas A&M campus in College Station, Texas.
Responsibilities include constructing firm-level panels, implementing panel instrumental-variable and two-stage least-squares designs, distinguishing direct effects from spillovers, maintaining replicable code, preparing disclosure-avoidance requests, evaluating results, coauthoring papers for leading finance and economics journals, presenting at conferences, and contributing to project reporting and related research tasks.
Applicants must hold or expect to complete a PhD in economics or finance by the start date. Strong applied microeconometrics, experience with large administrative or firm-level datasets, advanced Stata or comparable programming skills, strong writing, careful data stewardship, ethical judgment, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively are expected. Experience with restricted Census or IRS data, BRDIS, SIRD, RADS, or Compustat is preferred. Special Sworn Status with the U.S. Census Bureau is strongly preferred and requires residency in the United States or its territories for 36 of the previous 60 months plus a federal background investigation.
The proposed minimum salary is $5,981.25 per month. The appointment includes funded conference travel and employee benefits. Applicants should submit a complete online application together with a cover letter and resume through the Texas A&M University System Workday portal.
