About this position
The Global Ecology group at the Earth Systems Research Center, University of New Hampshire, invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate in Durham, United States.
The NASA-funded project investigates how terrestrial ecosystem functioning, productivity, carbon uptake and stocks, and resilience respond to climate change, including drought, heatwaves, and other disturbances. It will examine how biodiversity and management mediate these responses across regional to global scales.
The postdoctoral researcher will integrate ground-based observations, including eddy covariance measurements and forest inventories, with satellite remote sensing data such as spaceborne lidar and hyperspectral observations. Machine learning and deep learning approaches will be applied to address questions in global ecology, ecosystem processes, climate extremes, carbon cycling, biodiversity, and Earth system science. Responsibilities include conducting novel research, leading manuscript preparation, and presenting findings at conferences.
A Ph.D. in ecology, remote sensing, atmospheric sciences or meteorology, biogeosciences, forestry or natural resources, environmental science, or a related field is required. Experience in ecosystem functioning, satellite remote sensing, large-scale data processing, machine learning or deep learning, Earth system modeling, or synthesis of in-situ observations is desirable. Strong communication, writing, programming skills, and a publication record are highly valued.
The initial appointment is for one year, with possible renewal depending on funding and performance. Compensation is listed as $55,000, and continued employment is contingent on NASA-related external funding. Applicants should submit a CV, cover letter, and contact information for three professional references through the Workday application portal.
