About this position

University of Cambridge is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate (Honorary Resident Doctor) for clinical postdoctoral research in mitochondrial disorders, neurogenetics, neuromuscular disorders, and neurodegenerative diseases.

The role sits within the Cambridge Clinical Mitochondrial Research Group (MitoCAMB), embedded in the Department of Clinical Neurosciences and the MRC Mitochondrial Biology Unit. The group works on the genetic basis, clinical presentation, and molecular mechanisms of mitochondrial disease and related rare inherited disorders, with translational work spanning investigator-led experimental medicine studies, novel gene therapy approaches, early-phase clinical trials, biomarkers, and treatment development.

The post is supervised by Professor Patrick Chinnery, Dr Jelle van den Ameele, and Professor Rita Horvath. The successful candidate will support ongoing and new academic-led and commercial studies and clinical trials, contribute to the mitochondrial/neurogenetics NHS clinic at Addenbrooke's Hospital, and develop clinical, laboratory, and computational skills to support an emerging research programme.

This is a fixed-term appointment with funding available for 2 years in the first instance. The salary range is £40,190–£76,582. The post is aimed at practicing clinicians with a PhD, completed general medical training, and MRCP or equivalent; UK medical registration or willingness to work towards it is preferred. Prior clinical and research interest in neuromuscular or neurogenetic conditions is desirable.

Deadline: 1 November 2026. Applicants should apply online, upload a covering letter, CV, and the completed Additional Information for Clinical Researchers form, and include referee details. Reference RR51252 should be quoted in the application.
