About this position
The University of Cambridge is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the research group of Professor Rita Horvath at the Department of Clinical Neurosciences and the John Van Geest Brain Repair Centre.
This post focuses on the molecular and cellular biology of mitochondrial disease models, with a specific emphasis on ataxia telangiectasia, neurological progression, and treatment response. The project is part of a research grant from the joint call of Action Medical Research and Action for AT and aims to characterise novel biomarkers that can support monitoring of disease progression and measuring treatment effects.
You will work with neuronal stem cells and human neurons, and use proteomics, RNA sequencing, and other omics technologies to investigate mechanisms of neurodegeneration and ataxia in children and adults. The role also offers access to experienced bioinformaticians and the opportunity to develop independent bioinformatic analysis skills on large datasets.
The wider research programme aims to develop new treatments for mitochondrial diseases and other inherited rare neuromuscular diseases using genomic, cell biology, and specialised assays. Clinical samples from the MitoCamb neurogenetics clinic will support translational work in a human disease context.
The position is located at the John Van Geest Centre for Brain Repair on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. The appointment is fixed-term for 24 months in the first instance, with the possibility of extension. Salary is listed at £37,694–£46,049.
Applicants should submit an online application, including a covering letter and CV, and provide referee details. The closing date is 1 November 2026. Please quote reference RR51412 in your application.
