About this position
The University of Utah is seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the Neuromechanics & Applied Locomotion Laboratory in the Department of Health & Kinesiology in Salt Lake City, United States. The position focuses on balance control, wearable sensors, mobility monitoring, physical therapy rehabilitation, neurological disorders, and locomotor control.
The proposed research will use wearable sensors for continuous monitoring of mobility, with opportunities to collaborate on studies involving balance, locomotion, postural control, rehabilitation, and neural control of movement. The postdoctoral fellow will work under the direct supervision of Peter Fino and collaborate with postdoctoral fellows, research staff, graduate students, and faculty across the University of Utah.
Applicants must hold a PhD in a relevant field such as kinesiology, biomechanics, engineering, or rehabilitation science. Preferred experience includes wearable inertial measurement units, human-subject research with clinical populations such as people with Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, or mild traumatic brain injury, programming in MATLAB, Python, or R, biomechanical instrumentation, motion capture, electromyography, and independent statistical analysis.
The appointment is funded for two years and may be renewed depending on funding availability. Salary will be commensurate with experience and the NIH postdoctoral salary scale. The position remains open until filled, with a listed close date of January 29, 2027.
To apply, submit one PDF containing a cover letter, CV, and contact details for three references through the University of Utah employment portal.

What's required
A PhD in a relevant discipline such as kinesiology, biomechanics, engineering, or rehabilitation science is required. Preferred qualifications include expertise with wearable inertial measurement units for joint kinematics, balance, and mobility assessment in unconstrained or free-living environments; human-subject research experience with clinical populations with impaired neuromuscular control, including Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, or mild traumatic brain injury; programming experience in MATLAB, Python, or R; experience with instrumented treadmills, motion capture, and electromyography; publications or demonstrated interest in neural control of movement, locomotion, postural control, biomechanics, concussions, rehabilitation, or wearable sensors; ability to independently implement statistical analyses; strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, teamwork, and independent-working skills. A criminal background check and/or drug screen may be required.
