About this position
This postdoctoral position is based in the Department of Plant Pathology at Washington State University’s Irrigated Agriculture Research and Extension Center in Prosser, Washington. The researcher will focus on the Ascochyta blight complex on winter pea, with an emphasis on identifying the pathogens involved and understanding how they can be managed through genetic resistance.
The project combines field and greenhouse research with molecular and quantitative approaches. The successful candidate will screen genotyped pea lines for resistance to multiple pathogens, isolate and identify fungi from plant tissues, and use genome-wide association mapping to pinpoint candidate genes associated with tolerance or resistance.
The role is framed as an independent research post within a collaborative environment. The work will be carried out in collaboration with Dr. Lyndon Porter, a Research Plant Pathologist with the USDA-ARS in Prosser, and is embedded in Washington State University’s agricultural research setting at the Prosser center.
The position is suited to a researcher with strong molecular genetics and plant pathology experience who is ready to contribute to crop disease research with practical relevance for pea improvement and pathogen management.
