About this position
Texas A&M University is recruiting a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate for the Papageorgiou Laboratory in the School of Engineering Medicine (EnMed) in Houston, Texas. The laboratory develops individualized, AI-guided, real-time fMRI neuromodulation technologies for precision neurorehabilitation.
The postdoctoral researcher will advance a closed-loop iNM platform designed to restore sensorimotor and cognitive function in people affected by cancer treatment, neurological injury, and neurodegenerative disease. Responsibilities include real-time fMRI data acquisition and preprocessing, signal extraction and filtering, machine learning, dimensionality reduction, classification, state-space and hidden Markov modeling, network-level analysis, visualization, logging, and closed-loop output generation.
The role also involves software-interface development, participant-facing graphical interfaces, hardware-software integration, synchronization, latency and queue management, diagnostic systems, regression testing, and performance monitoring. The researcher will support MRI scanning sessions with human participants and collaborate with clinicians, neuroscientists, engineers, imaging scientists, and computational researchers. Contributions to manuscripts, presentations, documentation, grant-related research, and student mentoring may be expected.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate in electrical engineering, computer engineering, biomedical engineering, computer science, medical physics, or a closely related quantitative discipline. Strong programming skills in Python, MATLAB, C/C++, or related languages are required, along with software engineering, Linux/Unix, real-time systems, quantitative analysis, and troubleshooting expertise. CITI human-subjects research and MRI safety training must be completed within 30 days of hire. Salary is commensurate with qualifications, with comprehensive employee benefits. Applications are submitted through the Texas A&M Workday portal.
