About this position
The Humboldt Research Hub–Centre for Emerging and Reemerging Infectious Diseases (HRH-CERID) at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Nigeria, is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join its dynamic research group. This opportunity is focused on infectious disease genomics, with a strong emphasis on molecular techniques, whole-genome sequencing, bioinformatics, and statistical analysis. The successful candidate will contribute to experimental studies investigating disease mechanisms, host-pathogen interactions, immunity, and antimicrobial resistance, utilizing advanced sequencing platforms such as Oxford Nanopore.
Applicants must possess a PhD in medical or basic sciences and have at least two years of postdoctoral experience. Essential skills include expertise in molecular techniques, strong bioinformatics and statistical analysis abilities, and a proven track record in grant writing. Candidates should demonstrate good research outputs within the last three years, with at least two relevant publications in ISI Web of Science–indexed journals (Q1/Q2). Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills are required, along with the ability to work effectively in a team and communicate findings clearly in both oral and written formats.
The position offers a competitive salary, negotiable based on experience, and is funded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the Bayer Foundation, Germany. The initial appointment is for six months starting 01/01/2026, with the possibility of extension. International collaboration opportunities are available, and the fellow will have access to HRH-CERID facilities to establish an independent research group. Key responsibilities include designing and optimizing experimental studies, leading research article publication, contributing to grant development, and mentoring junior researchers.
Interested candidates should submit an application letter, CV, and a 1–2 page grant success story to the Head of HRH-CERID at [email protected]. The application window opens on 06/12/2025.
