About this position
The University of British Columbia is seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Fellow in pharmacoepidemiology and real-world medication safety. The fellow will be based preferably at the Therapeutics Initiative offices in downtown Victoria, British Columbia, or at the UBC Point Grey Campus in Vancouver.
Reporting to Dr. Colin Dormuth in the Department of Anesthesiology, Pharmacology and Therapeutics, the fellow will use large population-based and healthcare administrative databases to assess the safety and effectiveness of medications in real-world settings. The role will also support provincially and nationally funded research projects, including the Canadian Network for Observational Drug Effect Studies (CNODES).
Responsibilities include conducting rigorous pharmacoepidemiologic analyses; writing and executing SAS code; using R, SQL, and occasionally STATA; supporting study design and quality assurance; documenting coding methods; interpreting results; contributing to literature reviews and evidence syntheses; preparing abstracts, reports, and peer-reviewed publications; presenting findings at conferences; pursuing secondary research and funding opportunities; and collaborating with research teams.
Applicants must have a doctorate in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or Economics and at least two years of related experience. Pharmacoepidemiology experience is advantageous. Strong quantitative research, multivariate statistical analysis, data management, programming, scientific writing, communication, and critical appraisal skills are expected.
The position is full time and offers an expected salary of CAD 68,000–72,000 per year. The appointment is expected to begin January 1, 2027, or by mutual agreement, and is scheduled to end December 31, 2027. Applications close November 28, 2027, with review beginning December 1, 2026.
Applicants should submit a cover letter describing research experience and interest, a detailed CV, one or two writing samples or a thesis chapter, and contact information for three referees through the UBC online application portal.
