About this position

Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Operations Research and Data Science at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), administered through ORISE/Zintellect.

The project is based in Dayton, Ohio, United States, and focuses on research in adversarial interactions, multi-agent systems, and decision-making under uncertainty for security and defense settings. Research topics include adversarial location and network interdiction, adversarial machine learning attacks and defenses, bilevel/multilevel optimization, Bayesian statistics, decision analysis, and adversarial risk analysis.

This is a postdoctoral appointment, not a PhD or master’s opening. The position is a 12-month research appointment with possible renewal depending on funding, project assignment, and program rules. The stipend is $6,500–$8,250 per month, and additional support may include a health insurance supplement, relocation allowance, and training/travel allowance.

Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold or be currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Statistics, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a closely related field. A PhD is not required at selection, but the candidate should ideally complete the degree before the start date; ABD status may be acceptable. Preferred experience includes quantitative research, publications or preprints, Bayesian/statistical computing, optimization, game theory, network problems, and programming in Python, R, Julia, C++, or MATLAB.

How to apply: submit the application through the Apply button on the Zintellect listing. Required materials include a Zintellect profile, education and employment history, essay responses, resume, transcripts, and one recommendation. Questions may be sent to [email protected] with reference code AFIT-2026-0022 in the subject line.
