About this position
Arizona State University is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scholar within the Center on Information and Narrative Complexity (CINC) in Tempe, Arizona, United States. This is a full-time, funded postdoctoral role focused on building an AI-powered framework for understanding how narratives resonate with different audiences and how communications align with worldview and belief dynamics.
The project is centered on developing the Narrative Codex Framework (NCF), which combines computational modeling, analytical frameworks, and social science insight to decode influence campaigns and support narrative-aligned communication strategies for human review. The work sits at the intersection of computational social science, data science, computer science, complex systems, NLP, and machine learning.
Responsibilities include contributing to computational and social system analysis, co-developing NCF methods with software engineers, data scientists, and social scientists, building scalable and reproducible data/model pipelines, supporting the transition of methods into a deployable framework, and helping mentor students and research scientists.
Applicants must hold an earned doctorate at the time of appointment in computational social science, data science, complex systems, computer science, or a closely related field. Required experience includes programming in Python, R, or a similar language, basic data analysis, and interest or experience in belief dynamics, information environments, communication, or narrative analysis. The role especially welcomes candidates with experience in complex systems, interdisciplinary collaboration, and LLM/NLP methods for social science. Desired technical skills include Python-based NLP/ML libraries (spaCy, Hugging Face, scikit-learn, PyTorch), HPC, Google Cloud Platform, LLM APIs, statistical analysis, and software engineering best practices.
The initial deadline is September 16, 2026, and applications will continue to be accepted on a rolling basis for a reserve pool until the position is filled. Apply electronically through Interfolio and submit a cover letter, CV, and three references; optional materials include a research statement and peer-reviewed publications.
