About this position
EPFL (École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne) is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher in Advanced Flexure-Mechanism Design at the Micromechanical and Horological Design Laboratory (INSTANT-LAB).
The project focuses on flexure-based mechanisms, compliant mechanisms, structural mechanics, mechanical design, and precision engineering. The successful candidate will develop a new design and modelling framework for flexure mechanisms that balances multiple performance criteria while improving robustness to manufacturing tolerances. The work combines fundamental research with industrial collaboration and will involve analytical and numerical modelling, innovative precision-engineering solutions, experimental validation, performance testing, and publication of results.
This position is based at the EPFL campus in Neuchâtel, Switzerland. The lab highlights more than fourteen years of expertise, an established patent portfolio, and long-standing industrial collaborations. The project is supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation and the Swiss Innovation Agency.
Eligibility highlights: a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Microengineering, Robotics, or a closely related field; strong background in analytical and numerical structural mechanics, mechanical design, and precision engineering; at least two peer-reviewed journal publications; strong experimental skills; and excellent English. French is an advantage.
Funding and contract: renewable one-year fixed-term contract with competitive remuneration, access to state-of-the-art facilities, and opportunities for international collaboration and research visits.
How to apply: submit your application through the EPFL online platform by 1 December 2026. Required documents include a motivation letter, detailed CV with publication list and grades, contact details for at least three references, and two or three representative publications or your doctoral thesis.
