About this position
Amsterdam UMC is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher in AI/Machine Learning for Multimodal Cardiovascular Data within the European VASCUL-AID consortium. The position is based in the Department of Vascular Surgery at the AMC location in the Netherlands.
VASCUL-AID is a €6.3 million Horizon Europe project coordinated by Amsterdam UMC. It aims to develop a trustworthy AI platform for predicting cardiovascular risk and disease progression in patients with abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) and peripheral artery disease (PAD). The project integrates longitudinal electronic health records, proteomics, genomics, CT/MRI imaging, wearable sensor data, and clinical follow-up information from European clinical centres.
The postdoctoral researcher will lead AI/ML and multimodal data-integration activities at Amsterdam UMC. Responsibilities include harmonizing heterogeneous clinical and molecular data; developing graph-based, foundation-model, multi-omics, and uncertainty-aware approaches; validating models across cohorts; discovering predictive biomarkers; preparing reproducible models for clinical deployment; coordinating data collection and governance; contributing to the consortium AI/ML work package; and supervising PhD candidates, master’s students, and junior data scientists.
The role offers a full-time, 36-hour temporary contract through Amsterdam UMC Research BV, initially for 12 months or 2 years, with the intention to extend according to project milestones. The salary is €3,724–€5,867 gross per month, depending on experience, plus an 8.3% end-of-year bonus and additional employment benefits.
Applicants should have MSc and PhD degrees and demonstrate relevant research experience, programming ability, English proficiency, publications, and expertise in machine learning, multimodal biomedical data, clinical prediction, or related areas. Applications must include a motivation letter, detailed CV, two academic references, and copies of MSc and PhD diplomas.
The application deadline is 6 November 2026, with interviews planned for the week of 9 November and a preferred start in December 2026. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and the vacancy may close early.
