About this position
Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher in AI for Longitudinal and Population Health Risk Prediction within the Faculty of Engineering, Department of Electronics and Informatics (ETRO), and its research group Electronics and Informatics: Research – Development – Innovation.
The role sits at the intersection of artificial intelligence, biomedical data science, digital health, epidemiology, environmental health, biostatistics, and medical informatics. The successful candidate will develop, validate, and interpret AI and statistical models for health risk prediction using heterogeneous and longitudinal data. Research topics include patient-level prediction of disease progression, deterioration, and hospitalization; population-level modelling of environmental exposures and health risks; and interpretable, uncertainty-aware machine learning for complex health data.
The position is based at VUB’s Brussels Humanities, Sciences & Engineering Campus (Elsene), with limited remote work possible depending on group activities. ETRO collaborates closely with UZ Brussel and is a core member of imec, offering a multidisciplinary environment involving engineers, data scientists, clinicians, epidemiologists, public health experts, and external partners.
Eligibility highlights: a PhD in a relevant field is required, together with strong machine learning or statistical modelling skills, experience with longitudinal or real-world health datasets, strong Python programming ability, and good English communication skills. Experience with clinical prediction, survival analysis, causal inference, spatio-temporal modelling, multimodal data integration, explainable AI, Bayesian modelling, or GDPR-compliant health data processing is considered an asset.
Funding and conditions: this is a full-time 12-month postdoctoral contract, extendable after positive evaluation. Salary follows government scales. Benefits include telework support, leave entitlement, hospitalisation insurance, commuting reimbursement, and access to campus facilities and training.
How to apply: submit your application via the VUB jobs portal by 2026-09-01. Upload your CV, motivation letter, and diploma. For questions about the job content, contact Nikos Deligiannis at [email protected].
