About this position
The Pedley Research Group in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Carver College of Medicine, University of Iowa, is recruiting a full-time postdoctoral scholar in cellular biochemistry.
The project investigates the cellular organization and regulation of metabolism, focusing on the purinosome—a dynamic biomolecular condensate that carries out de novo purine biosynthesis. The postdoctoral researcher will study relationships between the purinosome and nearby subcellular structures, including mitochondria and the endoplasmic reticulum.
Responsibilities include designing and interpreting experiments, maintaining cancer cells in a sterile BSL-2 environment, generating stable cell lines using lentiviral transduction and genome editing such as CRISPR, performing qualitative and quantitative fluorescence microscopy, isolating proteins and assemblies for proteomic analysis, supervising junior researchers, presenting at meetings, contributing to manuscripts, and maintaining detailed laboratory records.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in biochemistry, molecular or cell biology, chemical biology, or a related field. A publication record demonstrating independent research contributions, at least three years of mammalian cell culture and molecular biology experience, stable cell-line generation skills, fluorescence microscopy and quantitative image-analysis experience, and strong communication skills are required. Experience in cell metabolism, protein-protein interaction assays, and training junior researchers is desirable.
The position is full time and offers a listed salary of $63,480 annually to commensurate. The application remains open until the position is filled. Apply online with a CV, three references, letters of interest, and statements describing past research accomplishments and future goals.
