About this position

Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Oxford in the Department of Experimental Psychology, working with the Brain, Speech & Language Research Group led by Kate Watkins.

This is a research position in Neuroscience, Cognitive Neuroscience, Psychology, Speech and Language Sciences, and related areas. The project is part of the ERC-funded STUTTER study, which investigates the neural mechanisms underlying stuttering across the lifespan.

The postholder will lead a randomised controlled trial examining the effects of non-invasive brain stimulation combined with speech fluency training in adults who stutter. Responsibilities include participant recruitment, delivery of experimental procedures, and evaluation of outcomes using speech recordings, MRI, and MEG. The role also includes contributing to publications, conference presentations, and other outputs, plus day-to-day supervision of a graduate research assistant.

Applicants should hold, or be close to completing, a PhD/DPhil in cognitive neuroscience, psychology, speech and language sciences, or a related discipline. Experience with human participant research and behavioural assessment is essential, and experience with neuroimaging or neurostimulation methods is required. Experience of MRI, MEG, or non-invasive brain stimulation would be advantageous.

The post is full-time and fixed-term for 2 years in the first instance, with possible extension subject to funding. Work is based in the Life and Mind Building and at the Oxford Centre for Human Brain Activity in Headington, Oxford, United Kingdom.

To apply, submit an online application with a supporting statement, CV, and details of two referees. The closing date is 13 November 2026 at midday.
