About this position

Postdoctoral Researcher position in condensed matter theory and quantum materials at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland, within the Centre of Excellence in Quantum Materials (QMAT).

The project is guided by Professor Tero Heikkilä and Research Fellow Stefan Ilić in the Condensed Matter Theory group. Research topics include mesoscopic phenomena arising from the interplay of superconductivity with correlated states and orders, with possible directions such as cavity effects on superconductivity, superconducting LEDs, superconductor–semiconductor hybrid devices, ferroelectric Josephson junctions, multiferroics, textured magnets, and parafermion physics.

The theoretical work will use Keldysh path-integral and nonequilibrium Green-function methods, complemented by tensor network approaches. The group works on non-equilibrium superconductivity, Josephson electronics, open quantum systems, flat-band physics, and momentum-space topology, and is part of broader collaborations including QMAT, JoGate, Finnish Quantum Flagship, SuperC, and Simons collaborations.

This is a fixed-term 2-year postdoctoral position with a possible extension to a third year. The salary is approximately 3600–4800 €/month gross, depending on qualifications and experience, with a holiday bonus and relocation support for international hires.

Applicants must hold a completed doctoral degree in physics or a related field before the start date, have a strong foundation in condensed matter physics, quantum physics, and statistical mechanics, and demonstrate excellent English, communication, and interpersonal skills. Experience with Keldysh theory, quasiclassical Green’s functions, tensor networks, or superconductivity-related theory is an advantage.

Apply through the university recruitment system by 1 November 2026. An up-to-date ORCID profile is required, and the application must include a CV, motivation letter, publication list, and degree certificate. Email applications are not accepted.

What's required

A doctoral degree in physics or a related field with a thesis written on a theoretical topic is required, and the PhD must be completed before the starting date. Applicants should have a strong background in condensed matter physics, quantum physics, and statistical mechanics, with knowledge of Keldysh field theory and/or quasiclassical Green’s functions, tensor network methods such as MPS or PEPS, and theory of superconductivity, ferroelectricity, or other correlated electronic phases considered an asset. High proficiency in spoken and written English is required, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

How to apply

Prepare an up-to-date ORCID profile and submit the application in the university recruitment system by 1 November 2026. Include a CV, a short motivation/cover letter, a numbered list of publications, and the highest degree certificate in English PDF format. Do not apply by email.
