About this position

RIKEN’s Center for Emergent Matter Science is recruiting a Researcher / Postdoctoral Fellow for the Quantum Materials Creation Research Team in Wako, Saitama, Japan.

The project focuses on quantum materials, especially thin films and layered interfaces. The successful candidate will carry out experimental research on the synthesis and property measurement of thin films of quantum materials such as superconductors and topological magnets. The lab’s broader goals include developing thin-film fabrication techniques for materials with topological electronic states, clarifying the origins of their physical properties, and exploring new functions for low-power devices.

Research keywords: thin film synthesis, condensed matter physics, solid-state physics, solid-state chemistry, devices, topology.

Eligibility: applicants must hold a doctoral degree in thin film synthesis, material synthesis, or property measurement, or be expected to obtain the doctorate by the hiring date. This is a fixed-term contract position with a one-year term and possible renewal up to five years, subject to evaluation.

Funding: annual income starts at 4 million yen, with salary determined by experience, skills, and achievements. Discretionary work allowance, commuting allowance, housing allowance, and social insurance are provided.

Location: Quantum Materials Creation Research Team, RIKEN Center for Emergent Matter Science (Wako Campus), Saitama Prefecture, Japan.

Deadline: applications are accepted from May 28, 2026 until May 28, 2027, and the search may close earlier once a suitable candidate is found.

How to apply: submit the required electronic documents, including a resume and list of achievements, via the public offering/application page.
