About this position

The Department of Physics at the Faculty of Science, University of Hradec Králové is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher in Cosmology, Modified Gravity and Gravitational Physics. This is a full-time, on-site position in Hradec Králové, Czech Republic, with an expected start date of 1 January 2027 and a duration of 3 years.

The successful candidate will join a research environment focused on theoretical cosmology and fundamental gravity, working under the joint scientific supervision of Jan Kříž, Filip Studnička, and Bekir Can Lütfüoglu. The project covers major topics in modern theoretical physics, including modified theories of gravity, black holes and compact objects, gravitational waves, dark matter models, strong-field tests of general relativity, black-hole perturbations and quasinormal modes, gravitational lensing, and observational signatures of physics beyond general relativity.

The position is designed to support independent and collaborative research and to help build long-term cooperation between UHK and leading European groups and networks in cosmology and gravitational-wave physics, including the European Gravitational Observatory, the Virgo Collaboration, the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics (Albert Einstein Institute), the Einstein Telescope scientific community, the STRONG Group at the Niels Bohr International Academy in Copenhagen, and the CosmoVerse COST Action CA21136 network.

Responsibilities include publishing in leading international journals, presenting at conferences and seminars, contributing to departmental scientific life, supporting student supervision where appropriate, helping organize seminars and workshops, participating in research proposals, and strengthening international partnerships. The department also aims to develop a sustainable research group with broader links to theoretical modelling, gravitational-wave observations, and astrophysical/cosmological data.

Eligibility highlights: a PhD or equivalent in physics, astronomy, applied mathematics, or a closely related discipline; strong background in cosmology, general relativity, modified gravity, gravitational physics, or relativistic astrophysics; experience with analytical and/or numerical methods; a competitive publication record; excellent English; Czech is not required. Experience in gravitational-wave modelling, numerical relativity, cosmological data analysis, or scientific computing is an advantage.

Funding and conditions: gross monthly salary of 46,000 CZK plus bonuses, with access to university research and computational infrastructure and support for conferences, workshops, and research visits subject to available funding.
