About this position

Uppsala University is recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow in Drug Delivery for Women’s Health within the FORTE-funded WHOLE Research Centre (Women’s Health Over the Lifecourse). The position sits in the Advanced Drug Delivery group at the Department of Pharmacy and is affiliated with SciLifeLab. The project is highly interdisciplinary and focuses on pharmaceutical nanotechnology, nanomedicine, vaginal drug delivery, biomaterials, microneedles, and biomedical engineering.

The research aims to develop a next-generation intravaginal ring (IVR) platform with microneedles and drug-loaded reservoirs for sustained, localized treatment of vaginal infections and other women’s health-related conditions. The postdoctoral researcher will design and fabricate 3D-printed IVRs, optimize geometry and drug-release properties, incorporate advanced formulations, and evaluate performance using in vitro and ex vivo vaginal models. The work includes release kinetics, mechanical testing, tissue interaction studies, and microbiota-related analyses.

The successful candidate should hold a PhD in Pharmacy, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related field. Required experience includes biomaterials, drug delivery, or formulation development. Strong advantages include hands-on experience with microfabrication, 3D printing, coating technologies, epithelial or mucosal models, permeability assays, confocal microscopy, and physicochemical characterization. The role requires independence, initiative, teamwork, and strong English communication skills.

This is a full-time, temporary 2-year postdoctoral position based in Uppsala, Sweden, with a starting date of 2026-08-01 or as agreed. The application deadline is 8 May 2026. Applications must be submitted through Uppsala University’s recruitment portal and include a CV, personal letter, reference contacts, certified degree documents, and copies of the three most important publications.

Supervisor/contact: Professor Alexandra Teleki (Uppsala University), email: [email protected]. The post is part of a collaborative, well-funded, international research environment focused on women’s health and advanced drug delivery.
