About this position

Ghent University invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher position in electrical power engineering, based at the Energy & Systems Lab (EnSy) within the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture. The successful candidate will conduct both fundamental and applied research in the domain of (offshore) renewable energy and flexibility in electric power systems, contributing to various ongoing projects. The role also includes supervision of predoctoral researchers, fostering a collaborative and innovative research environment.

The position is situated in the Department of Elektromechanica, Systeem- en Metaalengineering, and offers a contract of definite duration for 8 months, starting as early as May 1, 2026. Remuneration is determined by salary scale PD1 to PD4 (doctoral degree), and Ghent University provides a comprehensive benefits package, including training and education opportunities, 36 days of annual holiday leave for full-time staff, fixed bridge days, bicycle allowance, and eco vouchers.

Applicants must hold a thesis-based doctorate in engineering or engineering technology, preferably in electrical, electromechanical, energy, or control engineering. Experience in offshore renewable energy, flexibility in electric power systems, and energy & reserve markets is highly valued. The application process requires submission of a CV and academic transcript (merged PDF), a cover letter (PDF), and a transcript of the required degree. If the diploma is in a language other than Dutch, French, German, or English, a translation in one of these languages must be provided. Each document must not exceed 10 MB.

Ghent University is committed to equal opportunities and diversity, encouraging all qualified candidates to apply. Applications must be submitted online via the university's e-recruitment system before the deadline of April 10, 2026. For further information about the vacancy, candidates may contact Prof. Lieven Vandevelde at [email protected], but applications sent by email will not be considered. For questions regarding the application process, contact [email protected].

This opportunity is ideal for researchers seeking to advance their expertise in electrical power engineering, renewable energy systems, and energy market flexibility, while working in a leading European research institution.
