About this position

The Deshpande Lab at the University of Utah is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher in experimental condensed matter physics to help build a self-driving lab for quantum materials.

The position sits within AURORA, the University of Utah’s new NSF Programmable Cloud Laboratory node. The successful candidate will lead quantum-transport experiments on 2D materials and moiré materials, and contribute to autonomous workflows for 2D-materials fabrication and measurement. The project brings together expertise in condensed matter physics, materials science, AI/ML, data, and computation.

Research areas: quantum materials, condensed matter physics, 2D/van der Waals devices, low-temperature transport, autonomous experimentation, and cloud-enabled laboratory workflows.

Eligibility highlights: applicants should have a PhD in physics, materials science, or a related field (in hand or near completion). Strong experience with 2D device fabrication is preferred, including exfoliation, dry transfer or cut-and-stack, and e-beam lithography. Experience with low-temperature electronic transport is highly relevant; dilution-fridge or millikelvin experience is a plus but not required.

What is offered: a central role in a flagship national program at an early stage, with brand-new facilities and state-of-the-art fabrication and cryogenic-transport infrastructure. The post is based in Salt Lake City, United States.

How to apply: email [email protected] with a CV, a brief statement of research interests, and contact information for three references. Review starts immediately and continues until the position is filled.
