About this position
The University of Amsterdam is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the CONTINUUM project at the Van ’t Hoff Institute for Molecular Sciences and the Slootweg Group. The project develops an experimental memory framework for converting heterogeneous analytical and industrial production data into reusable chemical knowledge for circular sodium-ion battery materials.
The researcher will define data architecture, metadata, and provenance requirements; build traceable pipelines for quality control and harmonisation of NMR and IR datasets; benchmark spectral retrieval, multivariate, clustering, and machine-learning methods; and create a demonstrator linking analytical features with sample, batch, process, and performance information. The framework will be validated using production data from industrial partner BOR-LYTE.
This interdisciplinary postdoctoral opportunity combines analytical chemistry, spectroscopy, chemometrics, scientific data engineering, statistics, machine learning, battery materials, and circular chemistry. Applicants should have doctoral-level expertise in chemistry, data science, chemometrics, or a related area, together with scientific programming experience, preferably in Python. Experience with NMR or IR, complex research data, data engineering, information retrieval, or machine learning is expected; FAIR data, battery materials, production data, and industrial experience are advantageous.
The position is based at the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. It is an 18-month, 38-hour-per-week temporary appointment, with a gross monthly salary of €3,706–€5,760, plus holiday and year-end allowances and additional benefits. The preferred start date is 1 December 2026. Applications close on 15 November 2026 and should include a motivation letter, CV, publication list, and at least one academic reference.
