About this position
Johns Hopkins University is seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Researcher to join the laboratory of Professor Michael J. Betenbaugh in Baltimore, Maryland. The project focuses on filamentous fungal biotechnology and biomanufacturing, with the goal of improving fungi as platforms for producing valuable biomolecules.
The researcher will combine fungal cultivation, strain engineering, molecular biology, fermentation, bioprocess development, and advanced analytical methods. Responsibilities include optimizing fungal growth, productivity, product quality, and process robustness; culturing fungi in shake flasks and bioreactors; modifying and characterizing production strains; measuring substrate consumption, metabolites, and product yield; analyzing experimental data; and communicating findings through publications, conferences, reports, and collaborations. Opportunities include participation in the AMBIC biomanufacturing center and collaboration with industrial biotechnology and biopharmaceutical partners.
Applicants should hold a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Biological Sciences, Bioengineering, Biotechnology, Microbiology, or a related discipline. Experience in molecular biology, virology, protein expression, baculovirus or rAAV manipulation, data analysis, statistical modeling, and experimental design is relevant. Advanced microscopy, mathematical modeling, and machine learning are helpful. The position offers a salary of $60,000–$70,000, standard Johns Hopkins employee benefits, and an initial one-year appointment with an expectation of two or more years in total.
Applications are accepted until the position is filled. Submit a CV, cover letter describing research experience, interests, and career fit with the Betenbaugh Lab, and contact information for three references through Interfolio.
