About this position
Purdue University’s Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences is seeking a postdoctoral researcher in geodynamics and Arctic tectonics for an NSF-funded collaborative project.
The researcher will contribute to the geodynamic simulation component of a project investigating deformation and the forces driving tectonic behavior along the Arctic margins of Russia, Alaska, and Canada. The work will draw on rich geophysical datasets, including GNSS velocity fields, ridge spreading rates, and seismic constraints.
A central component of the project is the development of kinematic block models to estimate long-term surface motion. The researcher will also integrate seismic constraints on lithospheric structure and viscosity into three-dimensional geodynamic simulations. These simulations will test how ridge spreading, variations in gravitational potential energy, and mantle tractions shape the present-day stress field.
The position is situated within an interdisciplinary Earth science research environment involving geophysical data analysis, tectonic modeling, numerical simulation, and collaborative investigation of Arctic lithospheric processes. The postdoctoral researcher will have opportunities to work independently and collaboratively while contributing to the mentoring of graduate students and interns.

What's required
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in geophysics, geodynamics, or a related field at the time of appointment. Desirable experience includes GNSS data processing and analysis, tectonic block modeling, numerical geodynamic simulations, and integration of geophysical datasets. Familiarity with high-performance computing environments and programming for scientific modeling is advantageous. Candidates should be able to work independently and collaboratively, demonstrate initiative, and contribute to mentoring graduate students and interns.
How to apply
Submit a CV, a 2–3 page statement of research interests and experience related to the project, and the names and contact information of three professional references through the Purdue University application portal. Applications will be reviewed until the position is filled.
