About this position

Kanazawa University’s Nano Life Science Institute is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher for the new Umeda Laboratory in Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. The position is centered on nanotechnology, materials, nanobioscience, and biological imaging, with a strong focus on high-speed atomic force microscopy (high-speed AFM).

The lab’s research aims to further increase the speed and functionality of high-speed AFMs, develop 3D force mapping, and measure the nanomechanical properties of biomolecules at the submolecular level. The successful candidate will work on imaging and nanomechanical measurements using ultra-high-speed AFMs, as well as preparing biological samples for these experiments. Applicants who can prepare novel biological samples not previously observed with high-speed AFMs are especially welcome.

This is a full-time, fixed-term postdoctoral appointment at Kanazawa University. The salary is approximately 4.2 to 4.5 million yen per year, with social insurance coverage. The contract starts as soon as possible after 2026-08-01 and runs for 1 year, renewable up to 3 years total depending on performance.

Eligibility highlights: a doctoral degree by the hiring date (or expected by then), research experience in AFM, life sciences, or structural biology, and the ability to communicate and collaborate in English with international researchers. Experience with AFM is not required, but enthusiasm for AFM-based research is encouraged.
