About this position
The Center for Hypothalamic Research at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center is recruiting one postdoctoral researcher for a collaborative project involving the Ishii, Fujikawa, Williams, and Elmquist laboratories.
The project investigates how the hypothalamus contributes to systemic metabolic and behavioral abnormalities in an Alzheimer’s disease model. Using mice as the primary model organism, the researcher will study neural and metabolic mechanisms through genetic engineering approaches such as Cre/LoxP, optogenetics, and DREADD; neuroanatomical methods including immunostaining and in situ hybridization; molecular biology techniques such as single-cell RNA sequencing and CRISPR; intracerebral and local administration procedures; and electrophysiology.
The position is based in the Center for Hypothalamic Research and the Department of Neurology at UT Southwestern in Dallas, Texas. The postdoctoral researcher will work across four laboratories, contributing to an interdisciplinary research environment that combines neuroscience, neuroendocrinology, metabolic nutrition, molecular biology, neuroanatomy, animal surgery, and systems-level investigation of Alzheimer’s-related abnormalities.
The role is intended for a scientist who wants to develop an independent research program while contributing effectively to a collaborative team. The Center supports fellows who pursue independent research and provides assistance with fellowship application materials.

What's required
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or MD, or be expecting to obtain one and able to start after graduation. Experience conducting research using mice or rats is required. Candidates should be able to conduct research independently and work effectively as part of a team. Strong English communication skills are desirable but native-level proficiency is not required. Preference is given to applicants with backgrounds or technical skills in neuroscience, neuroendocrinology, metabolic nutrition, or related fields, and applicants should aim to conduct independent research in the future.
How to apply
Submit a CV listing education, work experience, publications, and three references with their names and email addresses, plus a 2–3-page summary of past research and outline of future research plans.
