About this position

Louisiana State University AgCenter is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join the Feng lab, co-advised with the Healy lab, in the Department of Entomology in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The project focuses on insect-microbial symbiosis and the development of symbiont-mediated RNA interference strategies for NWS control using proxy species.

The researcher will integrate insect rearing and bioassays, microbiome and symbiont characterization, molecular biology, RNAi technology, and functional analyses to establish and evaluate a symbiont-based gene-silencing platform. The work combines entomology, insect physiology, microbiology, molecular biology, biotechnology, and sustainable pest management.

The Feng lab investigates insect-host–microbe interactions and develops molecular biotechnology approaches for next-generation insect pest control. The Healy lab conducts applied research on medical and veterinary arthropod pests, including mosquitoes, ticks, and screwworms, with an emphasis on integrated pest management strategies that reduce impacts on the environment and non-target organisms.

The postdoctoral researcher may contribute to related projects in insect-microbial interactions, molecular biotechnology, and sustainable pest management. The position also offers opportunities to develop independent research ideas, prepare manuscripts, attend scientific conferences, mentor trainees, and contribute to competitive grant applications within a collaborative, interdisciplinary research environment.

Candidates must be able to independently plan experiments, troubleshoot technical challenges, analyze and interpret data, communicate research findings, and demonstrate scientific writing and research productivity, including peer-reviewed publications appropriate to career stage. Preferred experience includes insect rearing and bioassays; DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, gene expression analysis, cloning, and sequencing; microbial culture, bacterial genetics, or transformation; bioinformatics, microbiome data analysis, statistics, and data visualization; work with agricultural or veterinary insects; strong organization, record keeping, problem solving, quantitative analysis, and collaboration. Willingness to work with live insects and microorganisms under applicable laboratory, biosafety, and institutional requirements is expected.

How to apply

Apply online through the LSU Workday careers portal. Upload a letter of application, curriculum vitae, brief research experience and interests summary, official Ph.D. transcripts, and contact information for three references.
