About this position

The Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH), through its Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IMBB), invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position in the lab of Professor Panagiotis Moschou. This opportunity is part of the Horizon Europe ERC-CoG project, 'Limited proteolysis mechanisms in plants for selective protein translation to improve heat tolerance.' The Moschou Lab investigates novel protein-RNA interaction rules and their roles in environmental adaptation and plant development, focusing on the concept of 'coregulons'—protein/RNA condensates that regulate physiological responses.

The research group employs interdisciplinary approaches, including genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, and genomics, to study RNA/protein assemblies that transduce environmental and developmental signals. The lab's recent publications highlight its expertise in advanced cell biology and molecular methods (Plant Cell, PLoS Biology, EMBO Journal, Trends in Plant Science). The successful candidate will work both independently and collaboratively within the group, contributing to the ERC project's work packages and benefiting from the lab's strong record in developing postdocs' communication, critical thinking, and research independence.

The position offers a 12-month contract with the possibility of extension, and a competitive monthly salary up to €3,000 (including tax and social security). The project is fully funded by the ERC, and postdocs are encouraged to apply for additional fellowships, with increased chances for success due to the Widening Countries Scheme. The envisaged starting date is February 1, 2026.

Applicants must hold a BSc and PhD in Biology, Life Sciences, Chemistry, or related fields, with more than three years of active research experience at a top level. A strong publication record in plant molecular biology, protein biochemistry, nucleic acid research, physiology, and/or biochemistry is essential. Excellent English language skills (written and oral) are required. Desired qualifications include experience with genetic data, programming skills, and hands-on work with plants. The lab provides training in advanced cell biology, confocal microscopy, and molecular/genetic techniques.

To apply, candidates should submit the application form (available for download), CV, brief statement of purpose, names and contact details of two referees, and scanned copies of academic titles and qualifications to [email protected] by December 18, 2025, 13:00 (Greece time). The selection process includes evaluation by a committee and may involve interviews. Results will be announced on the IMBB-FORTH website (IMBB-FORTH), and applicants have the right to appeal. For further details, see the full position description and project information at Euraxess and CORDIS.

This is an excellent opportunity for talented, proactive researchers to join a leading lab in plant molecular biology and contribute to cutting-edge research on protein translation and heat tolerance in plants.

Funding details

Full funding including tuition fees and living expenses is available for this position. The scholarship covers all educational costs and provides a monthly stipend.
