About this position
The National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR) is seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Researcher in Mathematical Optimization for Energy Systems in Golden, Colorado. The position is based in the Advanced Computing Solutions Group within the NLR Computational Science Center.
The researcher will develop and apply mathematical optimization methods to the design and control of energy systems. Research may combine linear, nonlinear, integer, and stochastic optimization with artificial intelligence techniques, particularly reinforcement learning. The work will also involve scalable implementations for modern parallel computing architectures, collaboration with energy-domain experts, development of mathematical and simulation frameworks, publications, and proposal contributions.
Applicants must have completed, or be completing before employment begins, a PhD obtained within the last three years. Required experience includes algebraic modeling languages such as Pyomo, JuMP, PuLP, or GAMS; optimization solvers including CPLEX, Gurobi, Xpress, Cbc, or Ipopt; and strong computational and mathematical optimization fundamentals. Preferred skills include MPI or OpenMP, Python or Julia, Pyomo or JuMP, PyTorch, and experience in cross-disciplinary research teams.
The position is full-time at 40 hours per week, with an annual salary of $76,600–$126,400 and a competitive benefits package. The anticipated application submission window is up to 30 days and may be extended. Applicants should submit a cover letter and resume through the NLR Workday portal.
