About this position
The Advanced Nanorobots and Multiscale Robotics Laboratory at VŠB – Technical University of Ostrava in the Czech Republic is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher in Micro- and Nanorobotics. The group is led by Professor Martin Pumera and works in an international, interdisciplinary environment at the interface of chemistry, nanotechnology, materials science, biology, and engineering.
The successful postdoctoral researcher will contribute to biomedical research involving intelligent micro- and nanorobotic systems, with opportunities to engage in other projects aligned with the laboratory’s current priorities. The role includes the design, synthesis, characterization, propulsion, actuation, and functionalization of micro- and nanorobotic systems, as well as experimental evaluation of their performance, biocompatibility, and biological effects.
Research topics mentioned in the call include targeted drug delivery, cancer therapy, biofilm removal, and antimicrobial treatments. The postdoc will plan and conduct experiments, analyse data, prepare scientific publications, and collaborate with researchers across chemistry, materials science, biology, and engineering. Access to modern laboratories and research infrastructure is provided, along with support for high-quality publications, conference participation, and grant applications.
This is a full-time postdoctoral position, offered initially for one year with the possibility of extension. The appointment is based in Ostrava, Czech Republic, and the lab offers assistance with visa arrangements and relocation. The position is intended for a researcher with a PhD (or equivalent) in chemistry, materials science, nanotechnology, biotechnology, biomedical engineering, or a related field, plus experience in micro/nanorobotics or a closely related area. Strong experimental and analytical skills, knowledge of microscopy or materials characterization, and excellent English are expected.
The application deadline is 23 October 2026 at 23:59 (Europe/Prague). Applicants should submit their application through the online form linked in the vacancy. If shortlisted, the laboratory will contact candidates with further instructions and may ask for additional documentation.
