About this position

Postdoctoral Researcher in Music Research and Acoustics (M/F) at CNRS in Aix-en-Provence, France.

This postdoctoral opening is part of the RAMHO project (Musical Acoustics and Research in France: An Oral History), which studies how musical practices were transformed in the second half of the 20th century by sound analysis, synthesis, processing, and the rise of scientific knowledge about sound. The project combines archival research and oral history interviews to document the development of musical acoustics, computer music, and music research institutions in France.

The researcher will conduct interviews in the South of France and possibly elsewhere in France, identify and study archival sources, transcribe interviews, analyze collected data, and contribute to scientific articles, essays, and multimedia outputs. The role also includes helping organize RAMHO scientific meetings and the final conference.

The position is based at the Maison de la Recherche, Aix-Marseille University, Schuman Campus, Aix-en-Provence. The work is linked to research sites such as CRSIM/LMA, MIM, GMEM, CIRM, GMEA, and GRM.

Eligibility highlights: PhD required; dissertation in the history of science, media, and technology with a focus on music and sound, or in musicology with a sound science/technology component. The PhD must have been defended within the last two years before the contract start. Experience in archival studies and interviews is preferred; digital humanities skills are an advantage. French fluency and good English are required.

Deadline: 30 October 2026, 23:59 UTC.
