About this position
Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) invites applications for a two-year, full-time postdoctoral position in optimization-driven verification and validation (V&V) of precision machines, based in Eindhoven, Netherlands.
The project develops methods to automatically discover critical and previously unknown-unsafe scenarios in semiconductor equipment, metrology systems, and advanced manufacturing tools. The research will extend a multi-modal evolutionary search algorithm, FC-SCGA, from automated driving to high-precision machines.
The postdoctoral researcher will formulate V&V questions as multi-modal optimization problems involving operating conditions, disturbances, parametric uncertainty, and interacting error sources. The work also includes developing dissimilarity measures and coverage metrics, and validating methods through software-in-the-loop digital twins and hardware-in-the-loop fault injection.
The successful candidate will join the Dynamics and Control group in TU/e’s Department of Mechanical Engineering and contribute to VISTA Lab (Verification, Inspection, Simulation & Testing Automation). Collaboration with industrial partners, supervision of PhD and Master’s students, and contributions to research proposals are expected.
Applicants should hold a PhD in mechanical engineering, systems and control, mechatronics, applied mathematics, or a related field. Experience in mechatronic dynamics and control, evolutionary or multi-modal optimization, and simulation-based testing is required. Programming proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or Simulink is expected; digital-twin or hardware-in-the-loop experience is beneficial. Excellent English, communication, leadership, teamwork, project-management, and academic research skills are also required.
The salary is €4,422–€5,760 gross per month, supplemented by holiday and year-end bonuses and a broad benefits package. Apply online with a cover letter, CV including publications and three references, and up to five best publications. The vacancy remains open until filled, with the listed application deadline of 29 November 2026.
