Postdoctoral Researcher in Physics – Smart Optical Tweezers (Minitweezers_POC) University of Gothenburg in Sweden

The University of Gothenburg invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher position in Physics, focusing on the development of smart optical tweezers (Minitweezers_POC). The Department of Physics is renowned for its research in atom and molecular physics, condensed matter physics, spintronics, complex systems, and biophysics, and offers a vibrant international environment with extensive collaborations. The research group led by Professor Giovanni Volpe specializes in soft and active matter, optical tweezers, statistical physics, and machine learning, providing a unique opportunity for interdisciplinary research at the interface of physics, biophysics, and materials science.

The successful candidate will work on constructing and developing smart optical tweezers, programming them to perform experiments autonomously, and manipulating micro and nano particles while measuring the forces acting on them. The role requires hands-on experience in optics laboratories, optical tweezers, machine learning, electronics, and programming. A strong background in micro/nanomechanical force measurements, measurement electronics, experimental biophysics, and automation is essential. Candidates should be flexible, able to work both independently and as part of a team, and possess excellent communication skills in English. Experience with advanced measurement techniques, custom electronics, and proficiency in designing, building, and refining optical setups are valuable assets.

Eligibility requires a completed doctoral degree in physics or a related discipline, preferably awarded within the last three years, unless special circumstances such as illness or parental leave apply. The position is a fixed-term employment for two years, full-time (100%), with salaries set individually by the University. The appointment is based on documented qualifications and the ability to assimilate postgraduate education.
