About this position
Postdoctoral Researcher – Resilient Navigation and Embedded AI (M/F)
This is a postdoctoral opening at MINES Paris – PSL in France, within an interdisciplinary environment focused on autonomous platforms, drones/UAVs, embedded systems, and control. The project sits at the intersection of embedded AI, robotics, navigation, and real-time control, with a strong emphasis on maintaining functional integrity in disturbed electromagnetic environments (leurrage, brouillage, GNSS-denied).
The research challenge is to develop and validate a new generation of embedded autonomous systems capable of detecting behavioral anomalies in real time using non-stationary dynamic Bayesian networks (NS-DBN) with a very small memory footprint, and to connect this detection capability to the control loop. The goal is to close the loop from perception to decision to actuation by coupling anomaly detection with actuator control and trajectory maintenance under degraded conditions.
The postdoctoral researcher will work on: designing the detection-control coupling; moving from modeling to simulation, instrumented testbeds, and experimental validation; learning nominal behavior and detecting/characterizing anomalies; optimizing and reducing the model; developing fail-safe and reconfiguration strategies for GNSS-denied navigation; and contributing to scientific deliverables and intellectual property, including patenting.
Methods will first be evaluated on simulated data and instrumented benches, then tested against experimental drone-platform data. The position is especially suitable for candidates with a doctorate in robotics, automatic control, embedded systems, or embedded AI, and for those with hands-on experience in edge AI, probabilistic/bayesian modeling, UAV navigation, inertial systems, real-time C/C++ development, Python, RTOS, or FPGA/HDL.
The post offers a paid 18-month contract with remuneration from €35,500 to €36,175 gross per year. Applications should be submitted via the PSL recruitment page for reference vjx8if0umj. For further information, the contact email listed in the posting is available for inquiries.
Funding details
Paid postdoctoral contract of 18 months with remuneration from €35,500 to €36,175 gross per year.
What's required
Doctorate in robotics, automatic control/systems, or embedded AI, either completed or close to defense. Strong skills in embedded AI/edge AI, with probabilistic or Bayesian models considered a major advantage. Experience in actuator control and guidance for mobile or aerial robotics is expected, along with real-time embedded programming in C/C++; Python is appreciated, and HDL/FPGA and RTOS skills are a plus. Interest in drones/UAVs, inertial navigation, and GNSS is required. Candidates should be autonomous, experimentally minded, and comfortable working in a consortium; experience in embedded AI, real-time systems, or model reduction/optimization is especially valued.
