About this position

The Finnish Meteorological Institute is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher for a two-year position in Helsinki, Finland within the RCF-funded LUMOS project.

The research focuses on novel satellite-based methods for investigating the spatial and temporal variability of secondary aerosol formation. The successful candidate will develop advanced approaches to analyze and integrate large satellite datasets of aerosol precursor gases, UV radiation, and aerosols, with the goal of deriving new observational information on atmospheric processes.

The work may include machine learning and other data-fusion techniques to combine information from multiple satellite instruments and in situ observations. Additional tasks include developing new satellite-based products, identifying specific atmospheric and chemical events, and detecting emerging trends. The research will support international projects and the exploitation of observations from newly launched and upcoming satellite instruments.

You will work with experts from FMI’s Remote Sensing Research Unit and researchers from the University of Helsinki as part of the LUMOS consortium, and you will also engage in broader national and international collaboration. The position includes publishing scientific articles and presenting results at conferences, workshops, and seminars.

The role is based in the Atmospheric Remote Sensing group within FMI’s Earth Observation Unit, which works on atmospheric composition, air quality, greenhouse gases, the Earth’s surface, and the cryosphere using satellite and ground-based observations.

Funding and salary: This is a paid employment position, with a gross monthly salary of about 3700–4200 euros at the beginning.

Deadline: Applications close on 2 November 2026 at 23:59.

How to apply: Submit your application via the Valtiolle.fi job portal using the official job posting link. Apply before the deadline.
