About this position
The National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR) is recruiting a full-time postdoctoral researcher in the Separations Science group within its RRES Center in Golden, Colorado. The project focuses on separations science and chemical engineering for cost-effective lignocellulosic biorefining.
The researcher will develop and demonstrate advanced separations methods, including designer membranes such as OSN and OSRO in dynamic filtration systems designed to reduce fouling and recover lignin oil and water from pulping streams. Additional research may involve solid–liquid separations through dynamic membrane filtration, simulated moving bed and counter-current chromatography for complex lignin-derived streams, and recovery of pulping chemicals.
Applicants must be recent PhD graduates, with the degree completed before the employment start date, and should demonstrate expertise in designing, operating, and scaling novel separations processes. Strong peer-reviewed publications, laboratory safety, troubleshooting, problem-solving, independent research, scientific communication, and teamwork are required. Experience with membrane processes, chromatography, liquid–liquid extraction, automated control, Aspen Plus, Python, thermodynamics, chemical purification, and analytical or materials characterization is advantageous.
The initial appointment is for one year, with possible renewal for up to three years. The full-time annual salary range is $76,600–$126,400, with benefits including health insurance, retirement plans, paid leave, holidays, and possible relocation assistance. Applications should include a completed application form, cover letter, and resume. The anticipated application window is up to 30 days from posting and may be extended.
