About this position
The Institut für Astronomie & Astrophysik at the University of Tübingen (Germany) is advertising a postdoctoral research position in the research group Space Based Astrophysics led by Prof. B. Stelzer.
The project, “The Sun as an X-ray Star,” focuses on converting solar X-ray observations into a format that can be used to model the X-ray spectra of other stars. The work is aimed at understanding the solar-stellar connection and the corona through the analysis of archival solar imaging and spectroscopic X-ray data.
This opportunity is especially relevant for researchers in astronomy, physics, astrophysics, solar physics, X-ray data analysis, stellar activity, and multi-wavelength observations. The group studies the formation and evolution of low-mass stars and brown dwarfs, with a strong emphasis on stellar activity in a solar context.
The position is 100% E13 TV-L and funded for 24 months. Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent degree in physics or astrophysics. Experience with X-ray data analysis is useful, and a background in solar physics is also advantageous.
Application materials include a CV, copies of university degrees, and a brief 1–2 page statement describing previous research experience and motivation. Applicants must also arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent directly to Prof. B. Stelzer.
Deadline: 30 October 2026. The starting date is as soon as possible.
The University of Tübingen encourages qualified women scientists to apply and notes that disabled candidates will be given preference over other equally qualified applicants.
