About this position

Postdoctoral Researcher opportunity in sustainability transitions and European soil research at the Netherlands Institute of Ecology (NIOO-KNAW) in the Netherlands.

The role sits within the Soils for Europe / EU-SOLO project and focuses on synthesizing research needs and published data on soil health in Europe. The post bridges life sciences and social-economic sciences, using transition-oriented perspectives to examine how scientific knowledge, policy, innovation, and societal practices can support transformative change in European soil management.

The successful candidate will coordinate online and in-person sessions with project members, contribute to workshops with practitioners and stakeholders, and help develop an overarching roadmap for the European Commission’s Soil Mission. The work is explicitly interdisciplinary and sits at the interface of natural sciences, social sciences, society, and policy agenda-setting.

Eligibility highlights: a completed PhD in natural sciences, social sciences, or an interdisciplinary field relevant to sustainability transformations; knowledge of or experience with soil ecology, soils, or land management; ability to integrate and synthesize scientific and user information; comfort with complex systems and cross-thematic analysis; fluency in English. Experience in European research projects or policy contexts is an advantage.
