The Swedish Defence University is advertising a postdoctoral researcher in War Studies for a project on women’s voluntary defence organisations in Finland and Sweden (Lottakåren and Naisten valmiusliitto). The project examines women’s voluntary labour and participation in war, civil defence, and the reconstruction of national/total defence systems in the context of the rapid re-militarization of the Nordic countries.

What's required
Applicants must hold a PhD in War Studies, Political Science, or another relevant subject such as Sociology, International Relations, Gender Studies, Anthropology, or History, or an equivalent foreign qualification. The PhD must have been obtained no more than three years before the application deadline, unless special reasons apply. Applicants must not previously have been employed as a postdoctoral researcher for more than one year in the same or a related subject area with the same employer. Previous experience with qualitative and interpretative research methods is required, including interviews, observations, or text analysis and analysis within an interpretive or hermeneutic tradition. Full command of Finnish and Swedish at a very high level is required. Strong English writing and speaking ability is desirable. Personal suitability, initiative, organization, communication, and collaboration skills are important.
