About this position

Postdoctoral researcher in zebrafish research at Ghent University, Belgium.

This 4-month postdoctoral appointment is based in the Department of Biomoleculaire Geneeskunde within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. The project centers on zebrafish disease modeling and molecular mechanism studies, including analysis of a smad6a/b double-knockout zebrafish model using single-cell multiomics, support for a zebrafish model of Myhre syndrome, and development of a zebrafish model for ZTTK syndrome (SONA/B). The successful candidate will also contribute to scientific publications and research funding applications.

The post is aimed at applicants with a strong background in medical sciences and substantial practical experience in zebrafish model development, phenotypic analysis, and genome editing. Experience with the pathogenesis of thoracic aortic aneurysm syndromes is explicitly requested. The role also requires oral presentation experience at international conferences and good written and spoken Dutch and English. The position includes day-to-day support and guidance for Master’s and PhD students, indicating a collaborative research environment with mentoring responsibilities.

Ghent University offers a contract of limited duration for 4 months, starting at the earliest on 1 October 2026. The salary is set according to PD1 to PD4 scale. While no specific stipend or scholarship funding is described, the post is a paid employment contract with university staff benefits, including training opportunities, holiday leave, bicycle allowance, and eco vouchers.

Applications must be submitted online via the university e-recruitment system by 14 September 2026, 23:59 Brussels time. Required documents include a combined CV and transcript PDF, a cover letter, and a transcript of the required degree if already available. Applicants with foreign diplomas in languages other than Dutch, French, German, or English must provide a translation in one of those languages. Supporting documents such as reference letters or study result overviews may also be uploaded.
