About this position

Tokyo University of Science is recruiting a researcher/postdoctoral equivalent for a project on solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs), ceramic microreactors, thermal engineering, and related materials chemistry and electrochemistry. The work focuses on developing a palm-sized SOFC-based power generation system for portable and next-generation devices such as drones, autonomous robots, edge AI, and sensor networks.

The research includes fabricating a ceramic reaction vessel with microfabricated flow channels, integrating an SOFC cell into the vessel, and evaluating power generation characteristics (I–V, impedance) as well as thermal behavior such as temperature distribution and heat loss. The project also aims at patenting, conference presentations, publications, and broader social implementation.

Applicants are especially encouraged if they have experience in fuel cells, thermal management, ceramic or battery materials, fluid dynamics, control technology, electronic circuit board fabrication, or catalyst synthesis/evaluation. A doctoral degree is required.

The position is full-time, fixed-term, and non-tenure-track. Salary is approximately 4–6 million yen per year, with standard employee benefits and insurance coverage. The workplace is Tokyo University of Science, Yokohama Campus in Kanagawa, Japan.

Application deadline: 2026-09-30. Apply by email or through the JREC-IN portal, following the required document list and email subject line instructions.
