About this position

Postdoctoral Researcher positions are available in the Laboratory of Protein Structure at the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw (IIMCB), Poland, in the group headed by Prof. Marcin Nowotny.

The successful candidate will join a project entitled “Mechanistic and structural studies of adenoviral DNA replication”, funded by the Polish National Science Centre under grant 2024/55/B/NZ1/02607. The work focuses on the structural and mechanistic characterization of adenoviral replication, combining structural biology, crystallography, cryo-electron microscopy, and protein biochemistry. The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for structural studies of viral replicases.

This is a full-time research-focused postdoctoral position with no teaching obligations. The initial contract is offered for 6 months with the possibility of extension. The salary is 9,700 gross per month, and the package may be supplemented by additional bonuses such as a 13th salary and a Christmas bonus. The institute also offers reduced-rate private medical care, membership in the MultiSport programme, technical and administrative support, scientific training, peer support, and academic mentoring.

Applicants must hold a PhD in biology, biotechnology, or biochemistry, and meet the National Science Centre eligibility criteria for post-doc type positions. In particular, the PhD should have been awarded in the year of employment or within 12 years before 1 January of the year of employment, with documented career-break extensions where applicable. The ideal candidate has experience in protein biochemistry/purification, especially for nucleic acid enzymes, and ideally in crystallography and/or cryo-EM. Strong English communication skills, good presentation skills, collaborative ability, and at least one first-author paper in an international peer-reviewed journal are required.

The application deadline is 2 November 2026 at 23:59 (Europe/Warsaw), and the expected starting date is 1 January 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter. Applications must be submitted in English via the eRecruiter form and include a CV, publication list, motivation letter, referee contacts, and the required personal data consent statement.
